< COMPETITION PROGRAM OF THE FESTIVAL>

The 5th Arctic Countries Film Festival ARCTIC OPEN spans December 9-12, 2021 and will be hosted by Arkhangelsk and its municipalities.
The festival has received 1,562 submissions from 98 countries. Shortlisted for its official selection are 50 films made in 2020/2021 that will compete in four nominations:
– Best Feature Film (8)
– Best Short Film (12)
– Best Documentary (22)
– Best Children’s Film (8).
The geography of films encompasses Russia, Canada, Denmark, Iceland, Finland, Norway, Sweden and USA. The non-competition program features more than 5 films by Russian and international filmmakers. This year’s ARCTIC OPEN’s opener is Compartment No.6, a joint production of Finland, Estonia, Russia and Germany directed by Juho Kuosmanen. The film won 2021 Cannes Festival Grand Prix and is nominated for Oscar.
Screenings and meet-the-artist sessions will be hosted by the central public venues in Arkhangelsk, Novodvinsk and Severodvinsk. The official selection will be shown also as part of ARCTIC OPEN Marathon in Komi Republic and Saint-Petersburg.
